Pinetum Furniture

Dean Robbins, Co owner of Con-tempo Furniture, founded Pinetum back in 1989; he began by hand-manufacturing pine bookcases in a small unit in Sutton Veny, Wiltshire. Starting out with just one customer the company grew rapidly and incredibly successfully to become one of the market leading UK manufacturers of solid pine and oak wood furniture. Demand for Pinetum furniture became so high they were creating over 1800 units of furniture per week in both oak and pine.

Pinetum was committed to manufacturing the highest quality pine and oak furniture whilst ensuring that they maintained traditional handcrafted manufacturing principles within every piece of furniture created. The influx of imported product resulted in the unfortunate demise of many UK furniture manufacturers, however Pinetum managed to resist the temptation of transferring its production overseas preferring to support the UK manufacturing base and committing to building a brand based on these values.

Pinetum was always a brand to set the trends, with the full Pinetum collection designed by Dean Robbins himself. Dean Robbins has always had the same ethos to create innovative furniture that stands out from the imported crowd, therefore having to constantly produce fresh new designs in order to stay a step ahead of the competition. Over the years Pinetum created an outstanding collection of furniture, which allowed them to develop a strong brand within the trade and on the high street.

In 1989, their first range Roman was launched. Pinetum’s repertoire grew with the addition of new pine ranges; Tuscan and Titan were to follow. In 2000, Pinetum launched their first oak range, Quercus. Pinetum was one of the first manufacturers to launch an oak range in the UK. The contemporary styling of this range was right on trend and enjoyed phenomenal success.

The simple styling of Quercus was such a success it generated the launch of two new ranges in 2003. The Mundus range had a painted pine carcass finished off beautifully with a solid oak top and the Zante range was a solid pine range.

In 2007, Como launched, this range took on the clean lines of the popular Quercus range, but introduced striking and contemporary finishes.  Pinetum was the first UK manufacturer to introduce coloured oak to their ranges. In 2008, recognising the turn in the market, Pinetum introduced Q2. This compact range enjoyed the styling of Quercus and Como but with a mix of oak and oak veneers, the price tag was much more affordable and opened Pinetum to the middle market.

Pinetum continued to bring more affordable ranges to market in late 2009 with the introduction of Florence and Pantone. These ranges offered a more traditional feel and were a fantastic replacement as the pine ranges were phased out. All of these ranges firmly cemented Pinetum’s reputation for quality products and unparalleled design.
